This facilitator's guide was developed for Learning Lab 1 at the Global Meeting on WASH in health care facilities. The guide takes participants through the steps needed to conduct a situational analysis and assessment. It is being used as the basis of a methodology paper on how to conduct a situational analysis, currently under development and due to be published at the end of 2019.

This module for monitoring WASH and related IPC in delivery rooms is a final draft - the indicators and questions can now be used in relevant surveys and programmes. No WASH expertise is required to use them. The indicators build upon existing JMP indicators for monitoring WASH in health care facilities (in general service areas) and WHO’s Essential Environmental Health Standards in Health Care (2008). The JMP is seeking feedback from users up to the 28th February 2020 after which time a revised version will be published. Please share your feedback via info@washdata.org.

The purpose of this document is two-fold. The first is to provide criteria for selecting technologies to facilitate decision making for improved health care waste management in health care facilities. The second is to provide an overview of specific health care waste technologies for the treatment of solid infectious and sharp waste for health care facility administrators and planners, WASH and infection prevention control staff, national planners, donors and partners. For each technology, details on its operation, effects on the environment and health, requirements for installation, capacities for treating waste, examples of consumables and advantages and disadvantages are described.
