On April 9th, USAID’s Center for Faith and Opportunity Initiatives and Global Water 2020 hosted a gathering of 40 faith-based organizations to discuss the challenges of achieving access to WASH in health care facilities and identify solutions. Key actions highlighted were the importance of partnerships and working alongside the community, the need for more effective use of resources, a focus on rehabilitation of faith-based facilities (vs. construction of new facilities) and the systems required to maintain them, and a broad cultural shift to prioritize WASH in health care settings. The first meeting of faith-based groups on this issue, participants also raised the need to make their own commitments to WASH in health care facilities.
